OSKEY THE OSPREY

To: All Readers, Young and Old
From: Oskey the Osprey
Subject: Happy First Birthday!

It’s hard to believe that I left my super-sized nest and landed just one year ago in Cohasset, with Margaret Moncy, my author, and Serena Green, my illustrator. Since that sunny June book launch day, my book has migrated to far away Israel, France, the Netherlands and also twelve states, including Hawaii. I love being in kid’s imaginations as they get ready for bed, for a nap, or for story time!

On Cape Cod this spring, I had another big adventure. A well-meaning Eversource worker, concerned about the safety of my nest, tried to remove it! But thanks to a neighbor walking by, they were persuaded to leave it on the pole. In the fall, after I fly south to my winter home, they might decide to do a renovation: an extended platform for my nest, away from the wires!

My fellow ospreys are busy building nests at Scituate High School and at the North River Wildlife Sanctuary in Marshfield. There is even an Osprey Overlook Park which links to Great Esker Park in Weymouth.

My story, Oskey the Osprey and the Twins’ Cape Cod Adventure is available only at fine independent book shops including Buttonwood in Cohasset, Harbor Light Toys in Scituate, Eight Cousins in Falmouth, Titcomb’s in Sandwich and others on “The Cape and Islands Book Store Trail.” See you soon! Have fun with your outdoor adventures!

about the book

Twin girls, Ann and Meg, and an osprey named Oskey always spend the Fourth of July in Massachusetts, on Cape Cod. The girls come to visit their grandparents, while the osprey comes to raise his family in a super-sized nest. A neighborhood parade, family fun and traditions, and an unusual friendship between Oskey and the girls all lead to a very special discovery. This book celebrates the magic of childhood and honors both young and old.

about THE AUTHOR

Margaret Moncy is a former developmental Occupational Therapist who has worked with young children for many years in a variety of public school and other settings. A life-long lover of children's literature, she recently decided to create a children's book of her own with the support of family and friends. Along with her twin sister she has enjoyed introducing the remarkable “Oskey the Osprey” to youngsters in three countries and twelve states. She lives in Scituate, Massachusetts, with her husband and cat.

about THE ILLUSTRATOR

Serena Green lives in Scituate, Massachusetts, where she is an artist and a preschool teacher. She often paints outside, weather permitting. Her love of nature and of children, inspired the watercolors for Oskey the Osprey. She was also inspired by photos of Ann and Meg as little twin girls and by seeing the boot in the osprey’s nest while visiting on Cape Cod.

A TRIBUTE

Oskey the Osprey built his nest near the Cape Cod home of World War II veteran, Nelson Lindley,
to whom Margaret Moncy dedicates her book. Marking this year's 75th anniversary of the end of
World War II, the author wishes to recognize her father's brave service as well as that of Peter Moncy,
her father-in-law and George Shedd, father of Serena Green.

“My 6-year-old granddaughter saw your book in the window of a Scituate toy
store today and she had to have it.  We read it together tonight and we loved the story
and the artwork.  She wants to be a falconer when she grows up and she loves
birds of prey. We are big fans! Thank you for a wonderful book.”
